SMS strengthens InfoSec with ‘Cyber Essentials’ accreditation

SMS’s Energy Services division has achieved the UK Government-backed ‘Cyber Essentials’ accreditation, certified by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

Cyber Essentials – which helps organisations guard themselves and demonstrate best-practice commitment to cyber security – supplements SMS’s existing ISO27001 accreditation, the international standard for information security management systems (ISMS).

Suitable for all organisations, of any size, in any sector, Cyber Essentials is a partnership between the NCSC and the Information Security Forum (ISF) that sets out technical controls to boost business protection against the most common online security threats.

Government requires commercial suppliers bidding for contracts – such as the numerous public sector frameworks administered by the Crown Commercial Service on which SMS is registered – to be certified against the Cyber Essentials scheme.

The benefits of Cyber Essentials

  • Helps protect against common cyber attacks
  • Shows our customers and vendors that we take cybersecurity seriously
  • Assists in winning government contracts
  • Opens up business opportunities
