National Skills Development Centre
The academy serves as the skills development centre for our nationwide engineering workforce, who are trained to the highest of safety and technical standards necessary to carry out the Government’s Smart Meter Rollout programme across British homes and businesses.

Gas Courses
Our Domestic Gas Course, delivered under the Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS), caters for beginners to the industry wishing to become a Gas Safe Register engineer, as well as more experienced gas operatives looking to refresh or upskill in certain domestic gas categories. Besides domestic gas metering, we offer training modules on a range of domestic gas appliances, including central heating and cookers.

The Commercial Gas (ACS) Course is for experienced installers who wish to take on more varied work in the commercial gas sector. Our skilled trainers provide guidance and support to help to build your expertise and open up new career opportunities in the commercial gas metering industry. Modules covered include:

Electrical Courses
We offer training and assessment in 18th Edition, officially known as the Level 3 Award Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS7671:2018), certified by the LCL Awards.
Suitable for new entrants, newly qualified electricians, or practising electricians looking to refresh their knowledge in line with the latest industry regulations, this qualification is designed for those seeking to progress in their career and develop the skills needed to carry out work within the electrotechnical industry.
During the course you will focus on meeting the standards and demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations, including:

- selection and erection of electrical equipment
- inspection and testing

This course, accredited by the LCL Awards, has been developed for professionals already working in electrical related industries, such as Plumbers, Heating Engineers, Kitchen fitters, Mechanical Engineers and Appliance Installers. Its aim is to ensure learners are fully aware of and able to put in to practice the industry Safe Working Procedure for the Isolation of Electrical Supplies.
When working on any electrical installation, whatever the size, it is imperative that operatives apply the correct isolation procedure every time to prevent injury to themselves and other users or engineers whilst work is taking place. This course will deliver the knowledge and skills to ensure learners understand the requirements and can apply it on site.
Learners outcomes include:
- Understand and identify the current regulatory requirements and documents
- Understand the need for Safe Isolation of Electrical Circuits
- Establish a Safe Working Procedure for the Isolation of Electrical Supplies

The Level 2 Diploma in Smart Metering (Power) is for learners that are new to the industry and wish to learn how to install and exchange power (electric) smart meters in domestic dwellings. It is also suitable for existing installers, such as gas-only operatives, who intend to upskill and carry out work in a new industry sector. The qualification has been designed to minimise any duplicated effort and ensure learners do not have to re-learn what they already know.
The training and assessment package is certificated by LCL Awards to industry led standards.

Launching soon, this training programme is designed to upskill and prepare experienced domestic electric or dual-fuel meter engineers for more diverse career opportunities in the industrial and commercial (I&C) sector. This course will be delivered in-house to SMS-employed engineers only.
