SMS Plc are pleased to announce that it has secured a long term contract with Network Rail to provide metering and data services for all of their non-half hourly (NHH) electricity supplies and some of their half hourly (HH) electricity supplies, which commenced on 1st January 2016 for an initial period of 5-years.

Network Rail operates and maintains Britain’s rail tracks, signalling, bridges, tunnels, level crossings and many key stations. As one of the largest electricity consumers in the UK, Network Rail consume in the region of 3.8TWh of electricity every year, most of which provides the traction power to allow trains to run on the rail network.

This agreement for metering and data services will enable SMS to deliver its Meter Operator, Data Collector and Data Aggregation services across Network Rail’s non-traction areas of demand being the supply of power for signalling and operational use, as well as for use at stations, offices and depot locations. Under this agreement SMS will deliver services to circa 8,000 meter points, including 500 HH meter points and 600 sub-meters across the UK.

"This contract represents an exciting opportunity for SMS and is a fantastic start to 2016, building upon our pre-existing relationship with Network Rail where we have previously provided Metering and electricity connection management services. We firmly believe this contract further demonstrates our position as one of the leading independent providers of Metering and Data services in the UK."
