SMS Plc appointed utility consultants on Wales’ largest housing development project

New house being built

We are delighted to announce that our Major Projects team has been appointed by the landowner, Plymouth Estate, and lead developer, Redrow Homes, as utility consultants on Plasdŵr – the largest current housing development in Wales.

Plasdŵr will provide 7,000 homes in a “world-class, sustainable community” taking shape across 900 acres of countryside in North West Cardiff. Created over approximately the next 20 years and in a number of phases, the £2 billion development starts with the construction of homes and transport infrastructure bordering existing communities.

As it evolves, Plasdŵr will be made up of distinct areas of individual character, with a mix of apartments, town houses and luxury family homes together with a secondary school, four primary schools, health centres, shops and offices, pubs and restaurants, leisure centres, playing fields, play areas, parks and managed heritage woodland encompassing over 400 acres of green space.

The involvement of SMS initially focusses on the diversion and removal of the high voltage overhead lines, high pressure gas mains and trunk water mains from the site, each of which form part of the strategic infrastructure supplying Cardiff and the wider area.

We will also be advising the landowner and developers on the strategic development of the new utility infrastructure required to supply the development as it evolves, together with support through the procurement and construction stages.
