SMS launches end-to-end EV charging solution for UK public sector

Our end-to-end funding and delivery service for the public sector will support the UK’s move towards low-carbon transport and net-zero carbon.

We are delighted to announce that we have been appointed by the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) on its new Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Solutions (VCIS).

The purchasing framework, which aims to support the public sector’s transition to low-emission vehicles, provides central government and the wider public sphere access to products and services that encourage establishment of EV charging infrastructure. By using SMS as a supplier, public bodies – such as local authorities, councils and hospitals – will now be able procure a full end-to-end charging infrastructure solution to support their move towards low-carbon transport, and more widely, net-zero carbon emissions.

SMS – which also offers its end-to-end charging service directly to large organisations – provides full funding options as well as consultancy and feasibility, hardware and accessories, installation and decommissioning, servicing and maintenance, software and project management. Our inclusion on this newly established framework follows the launch of our Carbon Reduction (CaRe) Asset Funding service earlier this year, which delivers renewable generation, storage, charging and low-carbon heat solutions at no upfront cost to customers.

Our appointment by CCS – which supports the public sector to achieve maximum commercial value when procuring common goods and services – comes on the back of our leading role on the pioneering Innovate UK Virgin Media Park & Charge (VPACH) project. Working alongside local authorities and other private sector partners, SMS is managing the installation of 1,200 electric vehicle chargers across the UK, providing local councils with a solution to limited on-street EV charging points.

“Public sector organisations, and local authorities in particular, will play a key role in Britain’s greater uptake of EVs over the coming years through the essential provision of public charge points and related infrastructure. We are proud to be included on the CCS’s new framework that will facilitate this much needed transition to low-carbon transport, and in turn contribute to the UK Government’s net-zero emissions target by 2050.”
