With less than four months to go to the deadline, just a tiny fraction of the estimated 10,000-plus businesses that fall under the new energy efficiency scheme have met their legal requirements.

Only around 120 businesses have notified the Environment Agency (EA) that they are fully compliant with new energy efficiency regulations, with just a few months to go until the 5 December deadline for completing a legally mandated energy audit.

An estimated 10,000 UK businesses are thought to face obligations under the government's new Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), yet only a tiny fraction have confirmed that they are compliant with the rules ahead of schedule, according to new figures from the EA revealed exclusively to BusinessGreen at the end of last week.
