SMS Plc has established a fourth location at its Cardiff campus to house its rapidly expanding data services team, as the company continues to support UK energy suppliers with the smart meter rollout.

Trydan House, at Cardiff Gate Business Park, is to host the company’s Data Settlements Operations team, and adds to our existing energy services offices in the Welsh capital. This base consists of Prennau House and Oaktree House – also at Cardiff Gate – as well as Merlin House in the Wentloog Industrial Park.

With more than 3.1 million metering and data points now under our management, the data team forms an integral part of the group’s meter installation, asset management, and energy services operations, with office locations in Glasgow (headquarters), Bolton, Doncaster, Cambridge and Newmarket, as well as south Wales.

As the transition to next-generation smart meters (SMETS2) and the ongoing smart meter rollout offers increased opportunities, Trydan House is now providing extra space for our growing data team as we boost our service offering for the domestic and I&C markets, and to meet the growing requirements and innovation expected from energy suppliers.

Furthermore, with the introduction of elective half-hourly data settlement now being rolled out to I&C and domestic customers, SMS is pioneering the development of its elective half-hourly and other DCDA services. This not only enables energy suppliers to offer revolutionary smart tariffs, but also provides them with more efficient ways of settling energy – ultimately creating a more dynamic and cost-effective service to the market.

Tim Mortlock, Managing Director of SMS Plc said:

“Energy in the UK is undergoing a revolution, creating a large market for the installation and management of intelligent technology assets, as well as integrated data and sustainability solutions.

“With the development of our complete energy service, we are uniquely positioned to be a driving force as this market grows. The new office at Cardiff Gate is assisting with our expansion as we recruit nationwide for energy professionals to join our growing team.”
