Smart Metering Systems Plc (SMS), the integrated provider of gas and electricity infrastructure and asset management services, has been shortlisted for the ‘Energy Efficient Partnership of the Year’ award at the Energy Awards 2015. The award covers the most effective national relationships between end-users and consultant or ESCO companies in reducing their energy consumption.

SMS’ submission was based on its participation in 2014, assisting Santander to reduce its energy consumption to achieve its set reduction target. One initiative was the SMS’s management of the ‘Kill a Watt’ challenge, which was a nationwide employee engagement program, targeting employee’s awareness to reduce energy.

In conjunction with this nomination, SMS has won an award as Green Business of the Year in Wales. Sponsored by Wales Environmental, which manages waste across the country, the award is for businesses for which sustainability is at the core of their activities and has demonstrated an effective way of reducing environmental impact and increased profitability.

“Cost, both in terms of the environment and financial saving, is core to SMS’ strategy in the gas and electricity sector, and we are very pleased to have been recognised both in Wales and more widely in the UK for helping companies achieving these aims.

The UK ESOS initiative is a real benefit to companies and we are working very hard to help companies realise these benefits to their footprint and bottom line.”
