The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has been axed in a major revision of government departments following the appointment of Theresa May. The brief will be incorporated into an expanded Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy under Greg Clark MP, who served as Shadow Energy Secretary for the Conservative Party from 2008 to 2010.
In a statement, Mr Clark reiterated the priority given to tackling global warming, coming at a time when there is pressure on the government to ratify the Paris climate change deal.
"I am thrilled to have been appointed to lead this new department charged with delivering a comprehensive industrial strategy, leading Government's relationship with business, furthering our world-class science base, delivering affordable, clean energy and tackling climate change."
