After careful and ongoing consideration of latest government guidelines and the stringent COVID-19 control measures SMS has successfully implemented since June 2020 to protect employees and customers, SMS continues to safely carry out installation works across England and Wales. This includes domestic and commercial sites, in addition to the emergency and maintenance works we provide.

However, since Saturday 16th January 2021, SMS has temporarily suspended domestic installation activity in Scotland that can be reasonably delayed whilst the country remains under Tier 4 restrictions, in strict compliance with guidance from the Scottish Government.

Until restrictions are revised, SMS engineers in Scotland will not undertake any domestic installation or related activities that involve entering homes unless there is an immediate risk of a household being disconnected from its energy supply, or where the installation cannot be reasonably delayed (such as properties without an energy supply awaiting a new connection). SMS will however continue its I&C installation activities in Scotland and undertake emergency work as required, as specified under the Tier 4 guidance.

We are closely monitoring this situation, with the safety and security of our customers and our staff as our key priority.

Health & Safety at SMS

At SMS, health and safety is of paramount importance and our number one core value. We have been and will continue to operate as a COVID-secure business with the very highest of health and safety measures in place, ensuring that we can continue to operate safely in the field.

Throughout the pandemic, SMS has additionally assisted in safeguarding the security and stability of the UK's energy supply and metering infrastructure through the provision of essential maintenance. As we see out another period of national lockdown, a regular flow of gas and power will be needed to support our most vulnerable citizens, to keep hospitals running, and the economy moving.

In addition to rolling out smart meters and other energy services for our customers, we will continue to maintain these essential supplies, whilst also doing everything we can to protect the health and wellbeing of our customers, our employees, and the wider public.
